Armanini Names Bridge for World War II Veterans

October 30, 2026

HARRISBURG – A newly signed law has designated the Weedville World War II Memorial Bridge in Jay Township to remember veterans who served in the deadliest conflict in history, according to Rep. Mike Armanini (R-Elk/Clearfield), who submitted for the recognition.

Act 80 of 2026 names 29 bridges, including the one that carries State Route 555 over Kersey Run in Elk County. Historians believe 76 of Jay Township’s residents served in World War II.

“I’m excited that signage on the bridge will provide regular reminders of the bravery and sacrifice of area veterans,” Armanini said. “These men and women answered the call to serve their country during an incredibly challenging time in our nation’s history. Their courage, dedication and willingness to put themselves in harm’s way helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. It is important that we continue to recognize their contributions and ensure future generations understand the sacrifices made by those who served.”

Armanini is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to ensure proper placement of the signs.
